Sawitindonesia.com has told the story of a group of local communities who are working together to prevent fires on their land, in conjunction with Asian Agri.
The communities in Riau have formed Masyarakat Peduli Api (MPA) to set up routine patrols across their land. The people were spurred to act after smoke from forest fires not only affected their health, but prevented their oil palms from being pollinated by wildlife, affecting yields.
Asian Agri’s involvement comes as part of its community development program.
