Contributing to national development through our business
Asian Agri aims to support national development both through our business in the palm oil industry and by supporting government programs. As a leading crude palm oil (CPO) producer in Indonesia, we continuously promote the national adoption of sustainable agricultural practices to increase the industry’s capacity to drive state revenues, employment, and competitive edge in the international market. This is our contribution to the country as one of the pillars under the company’s 5Cs philosophy.
Export and Food Security
Crude palm oil (CPO) plays a crucial role in national food security and exports in Indonesia. Asian Agri contributes to Indonesia’s reputation as the world’s leading CPO exporter by maintaining high quality and efficient operations. We further support the development of a robust and sustainable palm oil industry in the country through the financial and technical assistance we provide to independent smallholders.
Asian Agri is fully committed to minimizing the environmental impact of Indonesia’s palm oil industry. We take a strong stance against deforestation through the protection of High Conservation Value (HCV) and High Carbon Stock (HCS) areas as well as our zero-burning policy. In support of the national effort for the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission, we refrain from opening new plantations on peatlands and apply sustainable practices across our plantations. As a signatory of the Sustainable Palm Oil Manifesto (SPOM) and Indonesian Palm Oil Pledge (IPOP), we try to raise awareness on sustainable practices in the palm oil industry not only within our operations, but also to our partners in the industry, including our smallholder partners.
Asian Agri has taken tangible steps to support the Indonesian government’s push for the adoption of renewable energy. We operate 10 biogas power plants spread across three of our operational areas. Out of the total 2.2 MW produced by each of these plants, 700 kW are used to power our palm oil mills while 1.5 MW is used to provide electricity to local communities. Our biogas power plants have complied with the standards of International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) as certified by SGS Germany.
