Asahan, 3 March 2025 – In support of Indonesia’s National Food Security Program, two of Asian Agri’s business units, PT Gunung Melayu (PT GM) and PT Saudara Sejati Luhur (PT SSL), carried out their first corn cultivation in Gonting Malaha Village, Bandar Pulau District, Asahan Regency, North Sumatra, on February 27, 2025.

The Head of the Agricultural Extension Field Technical Implementation Unit (KUPT PPL) for Asahan Regency, Susilawati, praised the two companies’ contributions in supporting national food security. “We thank PT GM and PT SSL for their commitment to supporting the government’s program. We hope the companies continue to grow and contribute to the nation, especially in the food security sector,” she said.

The General Manager of PT GM, Ashary Praja Kesuma, said the company strongly supports the national food security program. He added that the first planting is a testament to the company’s commitment to assisting local governments and communities in boosting food production.

Ashary explains, “With the available irrigation system, we are confident this corn field can yield 2 to 3 harvests a year with high productivity. The success of this program is made possible by the support of various parties, including the local government, the Indonesian military, and the police. The planted area covers 1.07 hectares, using 60,000 seeds of the high-quality Pioner 35 Singa variety to ensure optimal results.”

The inaugural planting event was attended by various officials, including members of the Forum Koordinasi Pimpinan Kecamatan (Forkopincam) of Bandar Pulau and Rahuning districts, KUPT Region IV Agricultural Extension officers, Bandar Pulau Military Command Commander Capt. Inf Nuryanto, Deputy Head of the Police Sector (Wakapolsek) of Bandar Pulau, IPTU Defi Endah Susanti, Head of Samapta Unit, IPDA FH Purba, Head of the Binmas Unit AIPTU Wagimin, and Danramil 15 BP Capt. Inf Nuriyanto, along with their teams. The event was also witnessed by Bandar Pulau District Head Syamsul, Rahuning District Head Mohammad Yasir, Gonting Malaha Village Head Supian, and Batu Anam Village Head Harianto.
