Tanjung Jabung Barat, 26 February 2025 – Asian Agri, through one of its business units, PT Inti Indosawit Subur – Kebun Tungkal Ulu (PT IIS), conducted the handover and first harvest of the Sekolah Sawit Lestari (SSL) program to SMKN 6 Tanjung Jabung Barat, located in Lubuk Kambing Village, Renah Mendaluh District, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency, Jambi, on Feb. 25, 2025. The program supports the empowerment of schools by providing education and utilizing school land as a learning resource based on plantation management.
The SSL program aims to broaden students’ understanding of the palm oil industry, increase school community involvement in managing the plantation, and optimize the use of unused land to support the school’s financial independence. The program, in collaboration with SMKN 6, was launched in 2021. After three years of development, including land preparation, planting, and harvesting, the program has now been officially handed over to the school for independent management.
The Senior Manager of PT IIS, Andy Anggoro Prasetyo said, “This program not only provides practical insight into palm oil plantations but also gives the students a more hands-on experience in plantation management. Additionally, the program serves as a sustainable learning tool for all of them.”
The Head of SMKN 6 Tanjung Jabung Barat, Herman Joni, expressed his appreciation for PT IIS’s contribution to supporting education. “This program has provided significant benefits to our school since 2021. Additionally, we have received other support, such as the construction of a bore well and internship opportunities for students in the plantation industry,” he said. He hopes the collaboration continues so that practical-based learning aligns with the developments in the modern plantation industry.
The District Head of Renah Mendaluh, Suhardi viewed the program as a positive step in managing school land productively according to palm oil plantation operational standards. “We hope this program continues to grow and is managed well for the advancement of education and the welfare of the surrounding community,” he said.
The Head of the Curriculum Division at the Jambi Provincial Education Office, Harmonis emphasized the importance of transparent and professional management to ensure the program’s sustainability. “The SSL program can serve as a model for other schools in Jambi. We hope there will be a clear system for managing the plantation’s yields, so that the benefits truly contribute to improving the quality of education,” he said.
SSL is one of Asian Agri’s CSR programs in education, collaborating with local schools and governments. The program aims to provide knowledge and enhance students’ skills through local content, educating students and their parents about sustainable palm oil management. Through this program, the company hopes schools will become more independent in improving education quality and equipping students with skills relevant to the plantation industry in their region.
