Pelalawan, 6th September 2024—In celebration of the 57th anniversary of Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) on RGE Founder’s Day 2024, Asian Agri, through its business units across North Sumatra, Riau, and Jambi, conducted a variety of social responsibility activities. These initiatives align with the company’s 5C philosophy, which emphasises that a company’s presence must benefit the Community, Country, Climate, Customers, and Company.

One of Asian Agri’s business units, PT Inti Indosawit Subur (PT IIS), held a social responsibility programme aimed at educating students from Pangkalan Kerinci 1 Vocational School (SMKN 1) in Pelalawan Regency and Kerinci Kanan 2 High School (SMAN 2) in Siak Regency, Riau Province. Both schools are located within the company’s operational area.

“The education sector plays a crucial role in developing human resources. Through quality learning, we can produce a competitive future generation. Asian Agri continues to participate in this educational process actively. Today, we provide materials to high school (SMAN) and vocational school (SMKN) students to introduce and foster environmental awareness among the younger generation. The educational content we delivered includes sustainable palm oil cultivation, raising awareness about the dangers of forest and land fires, prevention efforts, and the importance of proper waste disposal,” said Group Manager of PT IIS – Buatan, Marpituah Saragih.

“To help students better understand the material on forest and land fires, we also conducted a fire suppression simulation using fire extinguishers. This is essential, as the risk of fires can occur anywhere, at any time. Through this simulation, we hope the students will comprehend the dangers of fires and become more mindful of preventive measures,” Marpituah added while witnessing the fire drill at SMKN 1 on 4th September.

Meanwhile, the Principal of SMKN 1, Nasril, expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the company’s support towards the school.

“PT IIS has long collaborated with us. We recognise the many contributions the company has made to the field of education, including the Sustainable Palm Oil School Programme, the provision of local content, and offering internship placements for students. We fully support and appreciate the activities conducted as part of RGE Founder’s Day. The educational material delivered is highly valuable in broadening the students’ knowledge as they prepare for their future, especially since many of them are children of oil palm smallholders. Moreover, the fire-fighting simulation was a new experience for us, raising our awareness of the dangers of fire and its impact on environmental sustainability,” said Nasril.

During the event, a total of 131 students received educational support, 52 sudents from SMKN 1 and 79 students from SMAN 2.

In addition to these initiatives, all Asian Agri business units have also carried out various social activities in several of their operational areas, including free health check-ups, tree planting, and river clean-ups in North Sumatra, Riau, and Jambi, as well as beach clean-ups in Jakarta. These activities have been taking place from August to September 2024.
