Belawan, 26 March 2025 – Asian Agri, in collaboration with Tanoto Foundation, organized a two-day community program titled “Healthy and Smart Together” on March 25–26 in Belawan, Medan, North Sumatra. The initiative was carried out in partnership with the Medan City Health Office and the Office of Library and Archives, aiming to raise public awareness on health and literacy to improve overall quality of life.
The event, held at the Kong Tek Cun Ong Temple in Medan Kota Belawan, provided free health services and educational activities to directly benefit local residents. These included free medical check-ups such as blood sugar and blood pressure tests, with an emphasis on preventing and detecting non-communicable diseases.
“This event is about raising awareness of disease prevention and the importance of early detection,” said Rosmina Salim, regional lead of Tanoto Foundation for North Sumatra. “The collaboration between Asian Agri, Belawan Public Health Center, and the Medan City Library and Archives Office reflects our shared commitment to improving community well-being, especially in the areas of health and literacy. Through these health screenings and educational efforts, we hope people will gain a better understanding of how to prevent illness early on.”
The literacy component of the program was supported by a mobile library provided by the Medan City Office of Library and Archives, which offered access to books and reading materials. “We hope this activity will broaden the knowledge of Belawan residents and contribute to future development,” Salim added.
The Medan City Health Office, through the Belawan Community Health Center (Puskesmas), expressed appreciation for Asian Agri and Tanoto Foundation’s support in local health initiatives. They highlighted the importance of early detection and community education in addressing health challenges.
“Free health screenings and education play a vital role in identifying potential health issues early and promoting healthy lifestyles,” said the Head of the Belawan Community Health Center, Mohd. Mukhlis. “Collaborating with stakeholders, including the city’s library office, strengthens our efforts to provide more holistic services, as health and education are deeply interconnected.”
The Sustainability Operation & CSR Manager at Asian Agri, Putu Grhyate Yonta Aksa emphasized that the program aligns with the company’s AsianAgri2030 commitment to inclusive growth. “Through ‘Healthy and Smart Together,’ we’re not only addressing environmental sustainability but also focusing on improving the well-being of surrounding communities,” he said. “We believe inclusive growth is essential to building a better future for everyone.”
The cross-sector collaboration drew more than 200 participants, reflecting strong community interest in both health and education. Organizers hope the program inspires continued awareness of healthy living and a growing enthusiasm for reading.
