Pontianak, 25 September 2025 — Asian Agri, one of Indonesia’s leading palm oil plantation companies and a top producer of superior palm oil seeds, showcased its DxP Topaz seeds at the 5th Indonesian Palm Oil Smallholders Conference & Expo (IPOSC 2025) in Pontianak, West Kalimantan. The company’s participation highlights its commitment to a scientific approach in developing high-yield, disease-resistant, and statistically proven palm oil varieties, while also supporting the empowerment of smallholder farmers across Indonesia.
Yopy Dedywiryanto, Head of Plant Breeding at Asian Agri and a speaker at IPOSC 2025, highlighted that more than 200 million Topaz seedlings have been planted both domestically and abroad. This reflects the strong demand and trust in Topaz seeds, serving as a clear testament to Asian Agri’s commitment to delivering the best for their customers. The current seeds are fully tested and proven, capable of producing up to 24 tons of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) per hectare in their first year. By the third to sixth year (TM3–TM6), average yields can reach 38 tons of FFB per hectare. With an oil extraction rate of around 28%, the potential production of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) can exceed 10 tons per hectare.
Asian Agri has also developed the Topaz GT variety, a superior seedling designed to be more tolerant of Ganoderma disease. The seedlings are tested using the most aggressive Ganoderma isolates available at the Topaz Oil Palm Research Station (OPRS). This ensures that farmers can rely on Topaz GT to better withstand Ganoderma, which remains one of the biggest threats to oil palm plantations.
At the event, Yopy also highlighted that the Topaz 1 variety has become a favorite among smallholders due to its high number of fruit bunches and their heavy weight. He addressed circulating claims that the orange-colored Topaz 1 fruits have lower oil content, stating that this is not true. “Based on tests conducted on thousands of fruit bunches and trees, there is no significant difference between the orange and red fruits. In fact, the orange fruits of Topaz 1 tend to have a higher fresh fruit bunch yield compared to the red ones,” he explained.
Yopy then emphasized, “Plant Topaz high-quality seedlings, take good care of them, and smallholders are guaranteed to be satisfied—and certainly move up a level.” The availability of these superior seedlings offers palm oil farmers the opportunity to boost plantation productivity, achieve more consistent harvests, and improve their economic well-being.
This approach also supports the sustainability of palm oil plantations. High-yield, disease-resistant seedlings help reduce losses from crop diseases while minimizing the pressure to expand plantation areas. In this way, superior seed innovations contribute to more environmentally friendly and sustainable agricultural practices.
Topaz seedlings can be ordered through the Topaz hotline at 0823 1177 4500 or via email at topaz@asianagri.com. The Topaz 1, 2, and 3 varieties are priced at IDR 9,500 per seedling, while the Topaz GT variety is available for IDR 19,000 per seedling.
