Hong Kong, 31 January 2019 – As a company committed to traceable, responsible and sustainable production of palm oil, Asian Agri received the CDP Best First Time Performance Award 2018. The company obtained the best score among 74 Hong Kong and Southeast Asia-based companies participating in CDP’s questionnaire for the first time.

CDP, formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project, is an independent non-profit organisation that runs a global disclosure system that enables companies, cities, states and regions to measure and manage their environmental impacts. Representing 655 investors with US$87 trillion in assets, it has engaged over 7,000 companies globally in measuring, disclosing, managing and sharing their climate strategies, GHG emissions, energy use and water information.

Apart from implementing sustainability practices in its operations, Asian Agri also encourages its smallholder partners to implement the same sustainability practices in their own plantations by providing them with training on palm oil best practice management.

Asian Agri also spearheads a waste management programme. The company has built 10 Biogas Plants in North Sumatra, Riau and Jambi, aimed at reducing emissions and converting palm oil mill effluent (POME) into renewable energy for its operations and neighbouring communities.

Asian Agri is a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). More than 86% of both owned plantations in North Sumatra, Riau & Jambi provinces and 100% of scheme smallholder plantations in Riau & Jambi provinces have been RSPO certified.

All plantations, including those owned by smallholders, have been certified by ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification).

More than 93% of plantations and mills owned by Asian Agri have been ISPO (Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil) certified.

The company’s operations are ISO 14001 certified, while its Learning Institute and nursery research center in Riau province, Indonesia are both ISO 9001 certified. Asian Agri’s R&D Center in North Sumatra was also given a certification by the International Plant-Analytical Exchange at the WEPAL lab at Wageningen University in The Netherlands, for its high standards.
