Merlung, Jambi, 19 February 2021 – The Village Unit Cooperative Manunggal Jaya commenced their replanting program, covering 226.22 hectares, with the symbolic felling the first old-generation oil palm in Adipurwa Village, Merlung District, Tanjung Jabung Regency West, Jambi Province, today. The cooperative was supported by Asian Agri’s business unit PT Inti Indosawit Subur.

This event was attended by the Head of Adipurwa Village, Bambang Purwanto, the Chairman of KUD Manunggal Jaya, H. Muhtar, representatives of management of PT Inti Indosawit Subur (Asian Agri), Puji L. Sitompul, and all heads of smallholder groups under Manunggal Jaya Cooperative.

The replanting program aims to raise the productivity of oil palm plantations without opening new land. The felling of older generation oil palms represents the first step to replacing unproductive oil palm plants with new plants derived from Topaz superior seeds.

The use of superior seeds in oil palm plantation replanting supports the optimization of oil palm plantation productivity.

Chairman of Manunggal Jaya Cooperative, H. Muhtar said, “We have experienced the benefits of partnering Asian Agri in managing the first generation oil palm plantations. We are now continuing this partnership for the second generation crop. We hope that the productivity of this second generation of oil palms will be better than the previous, ” said H. Muhtar.

Adipurwa Village Head, Bambang Purwanto, acknowledged the support given by the local government to smallholders and expressed his appreciation for this activity. “We are monitoring the progress of the replanting closely with our partners and hope for great success,” he added.
